It consists of two electrodes a cathode and an anode enclosed in a highly evacuated glass or quartz bulb. the cathode is a semi cylindrical plate coated with a photosensitive material such as a layer of cesium deposited on Silver oxide. sometimes a thin layer of photosensitive material is coated on the inner wall of the bulb.
